Crazy Eights Rules

These are the rules I use for Crazy Eights. They're slightly different from the basic rules shown in the Wikipedia article, but this is how I originally learned it when I was a child (under the name Olsen Olsen).

  1. The purpose of the game is to get rid of all your cards.
  2. You can play any card of the same suit as the one at the top of the pile. Example: There's a club at the top of the pile, you can play any club.
  3. You can play any card of the same rank as the one at the top of the pile. Example: There's a six of clubs at the top of the pile, you can play any other six.
  4. You can play two or more cards of the same rank at the same time, but the first one of them must be the same suit or rank as the pile. Example: There's a club on the pile. You can play the 5 of clubs, the 5 of hearts and the 5 of diamonds all at the same time. Do this by selecting the cards (right click or Ctrl+click) on them in the order you want to play them. Once you've selected them, left click on any of them to play all the selected cards at once. If you are playing on an iPad or another tablet you can click a card and hold the finger on it for a second, then it will be selected. Select the ones you want to play together, and then tap on one of them to play them all together.
  5. If you have no card that you can play you can draw up to 3 cards from the deck. You can't draw if you have any cards that you can play in your hand. If you've drawn 3 cards and still can't play you must pass and the next player plays.
  6. You can always play an eight, and then you can change the suit to whatever you want. The game will prompt you for the suit after you click the eight.
  7. If the first card on the table is an eight when you start, then you are allowed to put down any card from your hand.

About Crazy Eights

This online version of the classic card game Crazy Eights was made by me. My name is Einar Egilsson and over there on the left is my current Facebook profile picture! Crazy Eights was one of the first card games I ever learned (under the name Olsen Olsen) and it's also one of the first card games I taught my 5 year old son. After I finished my other online card game, Idiot (a.k.a. Shithead), I wanted to make another card game and Crazy Eights seemed like the obvious choice, especially since I wanted to make a game my son could play by himself.

The game is made using html+JavaScript+css with jQuery used for the animations. All the graphics used for the game I found at OpenClipArt, a great site with free graphics. The excellent playing card images were made by Nicu Buculei, and the player images were made by Gerald G.

Any comments, questions, ideas for other games or anything else can be sent to admin@cardgames.io.

This is version 2890 of Crazy Eights.

What is Diggerz??

Diggerz is a 2D Battle Royale game where your goal is to be the last survivor! To do this, you can shoot other players of course, but also build and dig a defense! When you dig, you can uncover new weapons and tools.

Are you aware of this bug?

We play all the time and are probably aware, yes. But here are two:

  • Some players occasionally walk the bottom of the screen.
  • Some players stick for a second after they die.

Lag! What should I do?

So you're too laggy, and it's taking a long time between someone shooting or seeing a shot:

  • Close any other open tabs.
  • Pause or cancel any active downloads or streams. You can watch prank videos another time!
  • Close any file-sharing applications
  • Close apps that download in the background (Steam, etc.)
  • Reboot your router
  • If you're on WiFi, try a wired connection if you can
  • Get a better computer! Your 1998 pentium isn't good enough!

My game isn't smooth, it's 'laggy'?

  • Try closing other apps, browsers, and tabs
  • Try zooming in our out your browser. Zooming in lowers the resolution.
  • If you're running multiple displays, try moving your browser window to another one
  • Install the latest video drivers for your card. Here are some links for common brands:
    NVIDIAATIIntel
  • If your GPU is on Chrome's blacklist, it might be using a software renderer known as 'SwiftShader', which is terribly slow. Enter chrome://flags in your address bar, search for 'Override software rendering list', and enable it. CAUTION: The blacklist exists for a reason. This may make your system unstable. Make sure you save anything you're working on before trying this!

If you're running Chrome, try enabling Experimental Canvas Features:

  • Enter chrome://flags in the address bar.
  • Type 'canvas' in the search box.
  • Find 'Experimental Canvas Features' and enable it
  • Restart Chrome

This may make it better, or worse. Only one way to find out.

Why can't I move and shoot at the same time?

Crazy

Some systems have palm-cancelling software enabled by default, which prevents simultaneous keyboard and trackpad/mouse input. Check your system settings for palm cancelling/rejection and turn down the sensitivity or disable it altogether.

Are you going to add more stuff?

We have so many weapons planned, but only so many hours in the day and so many projects to work on, but be patient and we'll see what we can do! Hats are easy to add, weapons are hard.

How do I enable WebGL?

That depends on your browser! Diggerz requires WebGL, so if you can play the game already, it's enabled, and you don't have to worry about this! Otherwise, follow the directions for your browser below. You should really get the latest firefox or chrome. It's better for everyone.

Chrome 49+

Step 1 - Enable hardware accelerationCrazy Games Io
  • Enter chrome://settings in the bar up top
  • Open the Advanced settings towards the bottom
  • Have 'Use hardware acceleration when available' enabled in the 'System' section. You may need to restart chrome.
Step 2 - Enable WebGL
  • Type chrome://flags in the address bar
  • In older versions, ensure that Disable WebGL is NOT checked. In newer versions, search for WebGL 2.0 and set it to 'Enabled'. Again, you'll have to restart Chrome once you've done so.

Firefox 54+

  • Enter about:config in the address bar
  • Search for webgl.disabled and make sure it's set to false

You shouldn't have to restart.

Safari 10.1+

  • Select Safari->Preferences from the menu bar
  • Go to the Advanced tab
  • 'Show Develop' should be checked
  • Then go to the Develop menu, select 'Experimental Features' and make sure that WebGL 2.0 is checked

Edge 14+

It's already enabled, so make sure your graphics drivers are installed!

Internet Explorer

Good luck with that.

What are websockets?

Websockts are what let the browser talk to our servers. It should work in any of the following browsers:

Supported browsers

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Edge
  • Safari
  • Opera

Crazy Games Io Survival
